Stacking objects
Positioning two or more objects so that they have a specific amount of space between them is called stacking, and Expression Design lets you stack objects vertically or horizontally on a page. The following stacking features appear in the Stack submenu of the Arrange menu when you have two or more objects selected. These features also appear in the Stack pop-up list in the Action Bar .
- Upward Anchors the bottom-most object and moves the others so that they are the same distance apart in the vertical direction.
- Downward Anchors the top-most object and moves the others so that they are the same distance apart in the vertical direction.
- To the Left Anchors the right-most object and moves the others so that they are the same distance apart in the horizontal direction.
- To the Right Anchors the left-most object and moves the others so that they are the same distance apart in the horizontal direction.
In all cases, the amount of space placed between the objects is based on the Stack gap size option in the Units and Grids page of the Options dialog box.
Selecting five objects (left) and clicking Stack on the Arrange menu, and then clicking Upward results in the objects being stacked from the bottom up (right). Note that in this case, the Stack gap size has been set to -3 px so the object overlap slightly.
